Jlab Export is a leading Decade Inductance Box Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Decade Inductance Box (code EL-DB-1248) is a switched box that gives a known self-inductance by turning one to four decade dials, used in AC circuit, resonance and inductance-bridge experiments in college and university physics and electrical labs. The dials are very low contact resistance band switches on a Bakelite panel, housed in a wooden case. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Decade Boxes?
| Model | Quantity set | Listed ranges | Construction (as listed) |
|---|---|---|---|
| This decade inductance box (EL-DB-1248) | Inductance | 0.1–1 H on one dial up to 0.001–11.1 H on four dials | Low contact resistance band switches; Bakelite panel; wooden case |
| Decade Capacitance Box | Capacitance | 0.1–1 µF (mfd) on one dial up to 0.001–11.11 µF on four dials | Same switch, panel and case; fixed capacitance also listed in a Bakelite box |
| Decade Resistance Box | Resistance | 1–10 kΩ on one dial up to 1–10,000 Ω on four dials | Same switch, panel and case; fixed resistance box also listed in a Bakelite box |
The three boxes share one construction, so a bench can be equipped with matching L, C and R arms. Choose the inductance box when the experiment calls for a known, adjustable self-inductance; the capacitance and resistance boxes complete the set for LCR resonance and AC bridge work.
What Is the Decade Inductance Box Used For?
A decade inductance box lets students dial in a known inductance instead of winding or swapping individual coils. In B.Sc., M.Sc. and engineering labs it serves as the adjustable known arm in AC bridges that measure an unknown inductance, such as the Maxwell, Anderson and Owen bridges, and it provides the L in series and parallel LCR resonance experiments, where the resonant frequency is f = 1/(2π√LC). It is equally useful for showing how inductive reactance XL = 2πfL rises with frequency and for studying the L/R time constant of a coil.
Each dial adds whole multiples of its own step and the box presents the sum of the settings, so the lowest figure in a range is the finest step and the multi-dial models combine a wide range with fine adjustment. Low contact resistance in the switches matters because resistance added at the contacts changes the losses in the arm and upsets bridge balance. In use, keep the box away from transformers, chokes and other coils whose magnetic fields can couple with its windings, and change the dial settings with the supply off or the current low, since breaking the current through an inductance produces a voltage spike at the switch.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Number of dials — one, two, three or four, according to the range and finest step your experiments need.
- Fixed inductances — state whether you also need a fixed 100 mH, 1 H or 10 H unit, and confirm the fourth listed value.
- Electrical data for tenders — accuracy, coil resistance and current rating are not in the listing; ask for them in the quotation if your specification requires them.
- Quantity and companion boxes — the minimum order is 10 units; matching decade capacitance and resistance boxes can go on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a decade inductance box used for?
It supplies a known, adjustable self-inductance for AC bridge measurements of unknown inductors, LCR resonance experiments and studies of inductive reactance in college and university physics and electrical labs.
Which inductance ranges are available?
Four models are listed: one dial 0.1 H to 1 H, two dials 0.01 H to 1.1 H, three dials 0.01 H to 11.1 H and four dials 0.001 H to 11.1 H. Fixed inductances of 100 mH, 1 H and 10 H are listed as well.
How do the dials work together?
Each dial is a band switch that adds multiples of its own step, and the box gives the total of all dial settings. More dials mean a finer smallest step and a wider overall range.
Are the accuracy and current rating stated?
Not in this listing. Ask JLab to state the accuracy, coil resistance and maximum current of the model you choose in the quotation, especially if they are part of a tender specification.
How does it differ from the decade capacitance box?
The construction is the same — low contact resistance band switches on a Bakelite panel in a wooden case — but the capacitance box sets capacitance in microfarads instead of inductance in henries. For LCR experiments the two are used together with a decade resistance box.
What details does an export quotation need?
The model (number of dials), quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling requirements, and the tender reference where one applies.
Who manufactures the decade inductance box?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and supplies it factory-direct.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of physics lab instruments and electrical measurement apparatus, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The decade inductance box is built at JLab’s own works and is not bought in from a trader, so colleges, universities, dealers and importers get it straight from the maker, with each box visually inspected before packing and repeat orders handled by the manufacturer. The company is registered under CIN U29309HR2017PTC069123 and holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise. JLab exports worldwide and ships to every region — Estonia in Northern Europe, Yemen in the Middle East, Georgia in Eastern Europe, Kazakhstan in Central Asia and Gabon in Central Africa are some examples. For institutional purchases, see the JLab lab tenders page.
