What Is the Full Adder Trainer Used For?
A full adder adds three bits — A, B and the carry from the previous stage — and gives a Sum and a Carry-out. In gate form the sum is A EX-OR B EX-OR Carry-in, and the carry-out is (A AND B) OR (Carry-in AND (A EX-OR B)), which uses two EX-OR gates, two AND gates and one OR gate. Seen another way, a full adder is two half adders joined by an OR gate, so verifying the half adder first and then the full adder on the same trainer shows exactly how the circuit is built up. Chaining full adders, each passing its carry to the next, gives the ripple-carry adders used for multi-bit binary arithmetic. The trainer suits B.Sc. electronics and computer science labs, engineering and polytechnic digital electronics courses and ITI electronics workshops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which circuits does this trainer verify?
The digital half adder and the full adder, using OR, EX-OR and AND gates.
What is the difference between a half adder and a full adder?
A half adder adds two bits and has no carry input; a full adder adds two bits plus a carry-in, so full adders can be chained to add numbers of any length.
Is there a kit that also covers subtractors?
Yes. The Digital Trainer Kit to Verify Adders and Subtractors, linked below, is listed for the half and full adder and the half and full subtractor on one panel.
Who manufactures this trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of digital electronics trainers and scientific laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This full adder trainer is produced at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so colleges, training institutes, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct, every unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example South Africa in Southern Africa, Portugal in Southern Europe, Iraq in the Middle East, Georgia in Eastern Europe and Taiwan in East Asia. Tender buyers can refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
