What Is the Uropoiesis Model Used For?
Urine formation is one of the harder topics in the class 11 chapter on excretory products and their elimination, because it happens in structures too small to see. This model sets out the path step by step. Blood arrives through a branch of the renal artery and the afferent arteriole, is filtered in the glomerulus, and the filtrate collects in Bowman’s capsule while the blood leaves through the efferent arteriole into the peritubular capillaries. As the filtrate moves along the renal tubule and down and up the loop of Henle, useful substances are reabsorbed into those capillaries, and what remains drains through the collecting tubule and collecting duct as urine.
Teachers use it to explain the three processes — glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption and secretion — and the role of the loop of Henle in concentrating urine, which is also tested in medical entrance preparation.
