What Is the Fiber Optic Power Meter Used For?
A power meter measures how much light arrives at the end of a fibre, usually in dBm — decibels relative to one milliwatt. Because losses along a link add up in decibels, the power at the far end of a cable or after a joint, taken away from the power at the source, gives the loss of that section in dB.
What to Specify When Ordering
- The number of power meters.
- The connector type: ST, FC or the multi option.
- Any fibre optic trainers to quote on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does it use a germanium photodiode?
Germanium responds at the longer near-infrared wavelengths of glass fibre links, where silicon photodiodes lose sensitivity, so one detector covers all three of the meter’s wavelengths.
What comes with the meter?
A carrying case, a DC 9 V alkaline battery and a user manual.
Who manufactures this power meter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian maker of fibre optic trainers and laboratory instruments, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The meter is made in JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so institutes, dealers and importers buy it direct and repeat orders go back to the maker. JLab is registered for GST under GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and holds Legal Entity Identifier 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. It exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region, for instance Luxembourg in Western Europe, Denmark in Northern Europe, Canada in North America, Hungary in Eastern Europe and Croatia in Southern Europe.
