What Is the Hydraulic Tilting Flume Used For?
A tilting flume is used to study open-channel flow, where water moves with a free surface as in a canal or river. The orifice in the inlet pipe piece acts as a flow meter: the pressure difference across it is used to calculate the discharge. The trolley-mounted point gauge reads water levels along the channel, and repeating the readings at another slope shows how gradient affects the depth of flow.
