What Is the Pitot Tube Apparatus Used For?
A Pitot tube points upstream, so the fluid is brought to rest at its open tip and the pressure there rises above the static pressure of the stream by the velocity head. That difference gives the local velocity, which is how Pitot tubes are used to survey flow in pipes and channels.
