What Is the Rotameter Test Rig Used For?
In a rotameter the liquid flows upward through a tapered tube and lifts a float until the float’s weight is balanced by buoyancy and the drag of the flow; the float’s position on the scale gives the flow rate. Because the gap around the float widens as it rises, the pressure drop stays roughly constant across the range, which is why the rotameter is called a variable-area meter.
