Measuring a Thread Diameter
The measuring carriage floats at right angles to the axis of the work, so it settles across the diameter instead of being pushed off line by hand. Plain diameters are read directly. For a screw thread, the effective diameter is found by measuring over small wires seated in the thread grooves and correcting the reading for the wire size and thread form.
