What Is the Helicobacter Model Used For?
It helps explain how a bacterium survives in one of the most acidic places in the body. H. pylori is a curved or spiral Gram-negative rod with a tuft of sheathed flagella at one end. It burrows into the mucus layer over the stomach lining and makes large amounts of urease, an enzyme that splits urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide; the ammonia neutralises the acid around the bacterium. Infection is usually picked up in childhood, often within families, and many people carry it for life without symptoms.
In others, the long-lasting inflammation leads to gastritis and to gastric or duodenal ulcers, and over many years it raises the risk of stomach cancer and MALT lymphoma. Showing that a bacterium causes ulcers earned Barry Marshall and Robin Warren the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Common tests, such as the urea breath test and the stool antigen test, follow from this biology.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the model show?
H. pylori infection and the diseases linked to it, as its title states. The parts and labels are not listed, so ask JLab for a description and photo before ordering.
Does H. pylori infection always cause an ulcer?
No. Most infected people never develop one. The bacterium is a major cause of peptic ulcers, alongside other causes such as regular use of anti-inflammatory painkillers. The model is a teaching aid and gives no medical advice.
Who makes the Helicobacter model?
JLab, the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, at its works in Ambala, Haryana.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of biology lab equipment and disease teaching models, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The models are made in JLab’s own works, not resold from a trader, so teaching institutions, dealers and importers buy straight from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Canada in North America, Greece in Southern Europe, Afghanistan in South Asia, Iraq in the Middle East and Ivory Coast in West Africa.
