What Does a Kettle Type Reboiler Do?
A reboiler supplies the heat at the base of a distillation column. It boils part of the bottoms and returns the vapour to the column to drive the separation. In this design the bottoms reach the kettle either by pumping or by the liquid head from the column, and the steam gives up its latent heat before draining away as condensate.
