What Are Rubber Tubing and Corks Used For?

Soft rubber tubing joins gas taps to Bunsen burners, carries cooling water to and from condensers, and links delivery tubes in gas-preparation set-ups; rubber corks close test tubes, boiling tubes and flasks, and once bored they hold glass tubes and thermometers. When fitting glass into tubing or a bored cork, wet the glass with water or glycerol, hold it close to the end with a cloth, and push with a gentle twist. Natural rubber copes with the dilute acids, alkalis and ammonia listed above but swells in oils and organic solvents and is attacked by concentrated acids, so choose another material for those. Store spare tubing in a cool, dark place so it does not harden.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Tubing — bore, wall thickness and the total length you need.
  • Corks — the sizes, and whether they should be solid or bored with one or two holes.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who manufactures this tubing and these corks?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes them at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a general laboratory supplies manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The tubing and corks come from JLab’s own works rather than a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct and repeat orders are handled by the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Canada in North America, Morocco in North Africa, Denmark in Northern Europe, Sri Lanka in South Asia and Cambodia in Southeast Asia.
