What Is the Cryptosporidium Life Cycle Model Used For?
Cryptosporidium hominis and C. parvum cause most human cryptosporidiosis; C. parvum also infects calves and other animals, so infection can come from livestock as well as people. Unlike Isospora, the oocysts are already infective when passed in the stool, each holding four naked sporozoites. They resist chlorine at the levels used for drinking water and swimming pools, which is why the parasite causes waterborne outbreaks.
Once an oocyst is swallowed, the sporozoites attach to the surface of intestinal cells and sit in a vacuole just beneath the cell membrane — inside the cell but outside its cytoplasm. Asexual multiplication produces merozoites, and sexual stages then form two kinds of oocyst: thick-walled ones that pass out in the stool, and thin-walled ones that release sporozoites in the gut and re-infect the same person. Healthy people usually recover from the watery diarrhoea, but in people with HIV/AIDS or in malnourished young children the illness can be severe and long-lasting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which stages does the model show?
The listing does not describe the stages, labels or size. Ask JLab for a description and photo before ordering.
How is Cryptosporidium detected in the laboratory?
In stool samples, with a modified acid-fast stain in which the small round oocysts appear red, or with antigen and molecular tests.
Who manufactures this model?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — is a microbiology and biology teaching-model manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is built in its own works, so microbiology departments, dealers and importers order from the maker, and repeat orders are handled directly. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example France in Western Europe, Canada in North America, Laos in Southeast Asia, DR Congo in Central Africa and Romania in Eastern Europe.
