What Is the Lightning Injuries Model Used For?

Lightning is an extremely brief discharge of very high voltage and current. It can injure by a direct strike, by a side flash from a nearby struck object, through contact with that object or through current spreading in the ground. The most characteristic sign is a fern-like, branching pattern of red marks on the skin — Lichtenberg figures, also called arborescent or filigree markings — which fade quickly, often within a day or so. Other findings include linear burns along moist skin folds, burns beneath metal objects such as jewellery or belt buckles, singed hair, torn clothing and metal objects that have been magnetised or fused.

Lightning can stop the heart or breathing and may rupture the eardrums. In teaching, the model supports discussion of how examiners confirm a lightning death, since torn clothes and scattered belongings can at first suggest an attack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Lichtenberg figures?
Branching, fern-like red markings on the skin caused by lightning. They are not true burns and usually fade quickly, so they must be recorded early.

How is a lightning death told apart from an assault?
By the overall picture: typical skin markings and burns, magnetised or fused metal objects, damage at the scene and a record of a storm, rather than the torn clothing alone.

Who manufactures it?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, is an Indian manufacturer of teaching models and biology lab equipment, incorporated in 2017 and working from Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This model is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers order direct and each unit is inspected before it ships. JLab holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 (manufacturing enterprise) and Importer-Exporter Code 3317504552. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Afghanistan in South Asia, Mozambique in East Africa, Tunisia in North Africa, Moldova in Eastern Europe and Togo in West Africa.
