What Are Microscope Mirrors Used For?
On student microscopes without a built-in light, a mirror below the stage catches light from a window or a lamp and reflects it up through the stage opening, or through the condenser where one is fitted, to the slide. Tilting the mirror until the field of view is evenly bright is one of the first skills taught when students start using a compound microscope for onion-peel, cheek-cell and leaf-peel mounts and for prepared slides. A chipped, scratched or missing mirror leaves the field dim, so schools keep spare mirrors to keep every microscope in the class working.
On two-sided mirrors the plane side is generally used with a condenser and the concave side without one. Never aim a microscope mirror at direct sunlight, because the reflected light can harm the eye. Clean the reflecting face with lens tissue, handle the mirror by its edges or mount, and refit it firmly so it holds its angle.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Microscope make and model — so JLab can confirm the mirror suits your microscopes.
- Mirror type and size — state whether you need a plane, concave or two-sided mirror and the diameter of the one you are replacing.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 mirrors; one per microscope plus spares is a common plan.
- Mirror holders — add holders if the existing mounts are worn or missing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are microscope mirrors used for?
They reflect light from a window or lamp up to the specimen slide, illuminating it so the image can be seen through the eyepiece.
Will these mirrors fit my microscope?
They are designed to fit different microscope models and are easy to install. To be sure, send the make and model, or the diameter of your existing mirror, and JLab will confirm the fit.
Are they plane or concave?
The listing does not state the mirror faces or size. Tell JLab which type you need — plane, concave or two-sided — and the quotation will confirm what is supplied.
Is a mirror holder included?
Not as part of this listing. The Microscope Mirror Holder is a separate item and can be added to the same enquiry.
What should be included in an export enquiry?
The quantity, the mirror type and size or microscope model, the destination country and port or city, the delivery terms you prefer (for example FOB or CIF), any labelling needs and a tender reference if applicable.
Who manufactures these mirrors?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — makes them at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and supplies them directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of school laboratory equipment and microscope accessories, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The mirrors are made in JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers can buy factory-direct; each mirror is visually inspected before it is packed, and repeat orders and replacements are dealt with by the manufacturer itself. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — Germany in Western Europe, Afghanistan in South Asia, Estonia in Northern Europe, Taiwan in East Asia and Yemen in the Middle East are some examples. Tenders are covered on the JLab lab tenders page.
