What Is the PAM/PWM/PPM Kit Used For?
Pulse modulation samples a message at regular intervals and carries each sample in one property of a pulse: its height (PAM), its width (PWM) or its position in time (PPM). With all three on one kit, students can compare them on the same message tone.

What sampling rates does the kit offer?
A switch selects 4, 8, 16 or 32 kHz. For the 2 kHz tone, 4 kHz is exactly the Nyquist rate (twice the signal frequency), so the lower settings show the effect of sampling too slowly.
Why are there separate sample-and-hold and flat-top outputs?
A sample-and-hold circuit keeps each sampled value until the next sample; flat-top sampling gives each pulse a constant height, the form used in practical PAM; an analog sample’s pulse tops follow the signal.
