Student Exercises with an R-600a Can
One can is the right size for a single training circuit. Students set it on a High Precision Charging Scale, which is made for hydrocarbon refrigerants and reads in 1 g steps. After drawing the circuit down with Small Vacuum Pumps, they weigh the charge in and stop at the figure on the rating plate.

Only the amount printed on its rating plate, usually given in grams. Hydrocarbon charges are small, so a few grams too much or too little changes how the system runs. Weigh the charge in rather than filling to a pressure.
What precautions apply when students use the can?
Work with one can at a time in a ventilated room. Keep flames, sparks and unsealed switches away, and keep a fire extinguisher at hand. Charge only systems that were built for R-600a.
Can R-600a be mixed with another refrigerant?
