What Is the Specialised Gear Pack Used For?
Ordinary spur gears only pass motion between parallel shafts. The four gear types in this pack each do something different. Bevel gears are cut on a cone, so a pair can carry a drive round a corner. A worm is a threaded shaft that turns a toothed wheel slowly but with more turning force — the classic way to get a big reduction in a small space. A crown gear has its teeth standing up from its face, so a small gear meshing with it turns the motion through a right angle. A rack is a straight toothed bar: when a gear turns against it, the rack slides, changing rotation into straight-line movement.
