Variac Single & Three Phase

Product Code : EL-SI-8148
Jlab Export is a leading Variac Single & Three Phase Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Variac Single & Three Phase (code EL-SI-8148) is a variable AC voltage source — a variac, or variable autotransformer — for electrical machines, power and physics labs. Housed in a thick, vented metal box, it gives 0–240 V on the line-voltage connection or 0–270 V on the over-voltage connection, set with a knob and dial on top, with a slow-blow fuse in the output line. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is a Variac Used For?

A variac is an autotransformer with a single winding and a sliding brush that picks off any fraction of it, so the AC output can be turned smoothly from zero upwards without the heat losses of a rheostat. In electrical engineering and polytechnic labs it feeds transformer open-circuit and short-circuit tests, motor and lamp characteristics, rectifier and filter experiments and heating trials, and it is used to run equipment at reduced or slightly raised voltage during testing. On the over-voltage connection the mains is fed to a tap below the end of the winding, which is why the output can rise above the line voltage to 0–270 V.

Because it is an autotransformer, the output is not isolated from the mains: treat every output terminal as live, switch off before changing connections, and use an isolation transformer where a circuit must be separated from the supply. Start with the knob at zero and raise the voltage slowly while watching the meters, keep the load within the current capacity you ordered, and leave the air vents clear. The slow-blow fuse rides through short switching surges but opens on a sustained overload.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Phase — single-phase or three-phase version.
  • Current capacity — the load current you need, as capacities are supplied to requirement.
  • Mains supply — your supply voltage and frequency, so the connection and output range can be confirmed.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What output voltage does the variac give?
0–240 V on the line-voltage connection and 0–270 V on the over-voltage connection, adjusted with the knob and read on the dial.

What current ratings are available?
The variac is supplied in different current capacities according to the requirement. State the load current in your enquiry.

Is it single phase or three phase?
Both versions are offered under this listing. Say which you need; the three-phase input and output details are confirmed with the quotation.

How is the output connected and protected?
Through insulated 4 mm socket terminals and a 3-pin 15 A socket. A slow-blow fuse in the output line gives overload protection, and an On/Off indicator shows when the unit is live.

Is the output isolated from the mains?
No. A variac is an autotransformer, so its output is not isolated from the supply. Use an isolation transformer where isolation is required.

Who manufactures this variac?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) builds it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an electrical and physics lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The variac is built at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so engineering colleges, polytechnics, dealers and importers order factory-direct, each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and current capacities are matched to the order. The company is registered under CIN U29309HR2017PTC069123 and also holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 (manufacturing enterprise). JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tajikistan in Central Asia, Lithuania in Northern Europe, New Zealand in Oceania, Vietnam in Southeast Asia and Nepal in South Asia. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
