What Is the Delta Modulation Kit Used For?

Delta modulation codes speech-band signals with one bit per sample instead of a full code word, which makes it a simple route into digital voice coding. With four variants on one kit, students can compare how each tracks the same sine tone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the four delta techniques differ?
Delta modulation sends one bit per sample saying whether the signal rose or fell by a fixed step. Adaptive delta modulation changes the step size so the output can follow steep slopes, and CVSD (continuously variable slope delta) adjusts the step continuously from runs of identical bits. Sigma-delta modulation integrates the input before the quantiser, so the density of ones in the bit stream follows the signal amplitude.

What does the μ-law compander do?
It compresses the signal’s dynamic range before coding, giving quiet passages relatively finer steps, and the expander restores the original range after decoding. μ-law companding is the scheme used in North American and Japanese telephone networks.

Why is the sampling clock switchable?
A higher clock lets the coded staircase follow faster changes, reducing slope overload, so stepping from 8 kHz to 64 kHz shows the trade-off between bit rate and quality.

OEM Manufacturer

Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, is an Indian manufacturer of communication trainers and laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab makes this kit in its own works instead of reselling a trader’s stock, so colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, repeat orders and spares included. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Zimbabwe in East Africa, South Africa in Southern Africa, Ukraine in Eastern Europe, Malaysia in Southeast Asia and Mongolia in East Asia.
