How Does It Compare with Other JLab LCR Instruments?

ModelRanges as listedType and other details
This meter (EL-DMI-1045)C 0–10,000 µF; R up to 20 MΩ; L up to 2,000 HBench digital meter; 4-digit LED; D and Q read directly
Hand held L.C.D.L 1 mH–100 H; C 1 pF–100 mF; R 0.1 Ω–20 MΩHand-held instrument with LCD display

Choose this bench meter for direct digital readings with D and Q and a high inductance range; the hand-held model suits portable checks, and the bridge suits teaching the balancing method.

What Is the Digital LCR Meter Used For?

A digital LCR meter applies a small AC test signal to a component and works out its inductance (L), capacitance (C) or resistance (R) from the resulting voltage and current. The D factor shows how lossy a capacitor is and the Q factor how efficient an inductor is; Q is the reciprocal of D. In B.Sc. electronics, polytechnic and engineering labs, and in ITI electronics workshops, students use it to verify the values of resistors, capacitors and coils before building circuits, to sort unmarked components and to study how winding and core affect a coil. Measure components out of circuit, and discharge capacitors fully before connecting them to the meter.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Mains supply — the meter is listed for 220 V, 50 Hz; state your local supply.
  • Test leads or fixtures — the listing does not mention them, so say what you need in the enquiry.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; add a Q meter or LCR bridge if the lab also teaches those methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the D and Q readings mean?
D, the dissipation factor, describes the losses in a capacitor; Q, the quality factor, describes how close an inductor is to an ideal, loss-free coil. A low D and a high Q indicate a better component.

How is it different from the L.C.R. Bridge?
This meter gives a direct digital reading on a 4-digit LED display. The bridge, as listed, is balanced over seven ranges and works on mains or a battery, with a lower top capacitance and inductance range.

Who manufactures this LCR meter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an electronic lab instruments manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The LCR meter is made at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so institutions, dealers and importers order factory-direct. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example DR Congo in Central Africa, Mali in West Africa, Georgia in Eastern Europe, Croatia in Southern Europe and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. Tender buyers can see the JLab lab tenders page.
