What the Indentations Do
As vapour climbs the column it meets the indentations, condenses on them and boils off again many times, so the vapour leaving the top is richer in the lower-boiling part of the mixture. The 600 mm column gives more of this surface than the 360 mm one and therefore a finer separation.
