Distilling Flasks

Product Code : EL-SLE-5602
Jlab Export is a leading Distilling Flasks Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Distilling Flasks (code EL-SLE-5602) are 250 ml round-bottom flasks with a long neck, used to boil a liquid mixture so that the vapour can be led off and condensed in simple distillation practicals in school and college chemistry labs. The round bottom spreads heat evenly and the long neck gives room for a thermometer above the boiling liquid. They are made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Distillation Flasks?

ListingCapacityDetails given on its page
These distilling flasks (EL-SLE-5602)250 mlRound bottom; long neck
Distillation Flask (borosilicate)500 mlBorosilicate glass; heat and chemical resistant; graduated; clear
Distillation Flask (micro chemical)500 mlSide arm about 77 mm below the top of the neck, at 75 degrees; for micro chemical applications

Choose the 250 ml flask for class-sized distillations of small volumes. The 500 ml listings suit larger batches; the borosilicate version is listed as graduated, and the micro chemical version gives a defined side-arm position.

What Is a Distilling Flask Used For?

Distillation separates a liquid from dissolved solids or from another liquid with a different boiling point — for example obtaining pure water from salt solution, or separating acetone from water in the class 9 “Is Matter Around Us Pure” chapter, and purifying liquids in class 12 and college organic chemistry. In a distilling flask the vapour leaves through a side arm near the top of the neck and passes into a condenser, while the thermometer bulb sits level with the side arm to read the vapour temperature. Fill the flask no more than about half to two-thirds, add a few boiling chips to prevent bumping, clamp it by the neck and heat it gently on a wire gauze or in a heating mantle. Never distil to dryness, and let the flask cool before rinsing it.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Glass — state if you need borosilicate glass for direct heating.
  • Side arm and joints — give the side-arm position or ground-glass joint size if the flask must fit an existing condenser or thermometer adapter.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 flasks.
  • Distillation set — add the condenser, wire gauze, stand and burner to the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the capacity of this distilling flask?
250 ml. For larger batches JLab also lists 500 ml distillation flasks, compared above.

Is the flask made of borosilicate glass?
The listing does not state the glass type. If your method involves direct heating, ask for borosilicate glass in your enquiry and JLab will confirm before quoting.

Does it have a side arm or ground-glass joints?
The listing describes a round-bottom, long-neck distilling flask but gives no side-arm position or joint size. Send your requirement so JLab can confirm the matching design.

Is a condenser included?
No. This listing covers the flask only; the Liebig condenser, wire gauze, retort stand ring and burner are separate items linked below.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory glassware and science teaching equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These distilling flasks are made in JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers get them factory-direct, each flask is inspected visually before dispatch, and repeat and matching orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Samoa in Oceania, the Maldives in South Asia, Paraguay in South America, Mongolia in East Asia and Denmark in Northern Europe. Tender buyers can find more on the JLab lab tenders page.

Distillation Set-Up Items

  • Liebig Condenser — a borosilicate glass condenser with inner tube, plastic nuts and rubber washers that cools the vapour from the side arm.
  • Wire Gauze, Metallic — a square iron gauze with a ceramic centre to spread the flame under the flask.
  • Retort Stand Ring — holds the wire gauze at working height on a retort stand.
  • Bunsen Burner with a Spare Jet — a brass-pipe gas burner with an extra jet for heating the flask.
