Setting Up Suction Filtration
A Buchner funnel or jointed filter sits in the neck, and the side arm is connected by thick-walled tubing to a vacuum line or water pump. The reduced pressure draws the liquid through the filter into the flask and leaves the solid on top. Because the neck is a socket and not a plain rim, a filter with a matching cone can be seated without a rubber bung.
Picking a Capacity
The 100 ml flask, 105 mm tall and 70 mm across, suits small bench filtrations, while the 1000 ml flask stands 220 mm tall with a 135 mm body for larger volumes of filtrate. Choose a capacity well above the volume you expect to collect, and a socket that matches the cone of your filter.
