What Is the Hymen Injury Model Used For?
The model supports teaching on the medico-legal examination of survivors of sexual assault. Training covers informed consent, the presence of a chaperone, a calm and trauma-informed approach, precise description and diagrams of any findings, collection of evidence with an unbroken chain of custody, and arranging medical care, emergency contraception and counselling. Examiners learn to describe what they see rather than draw conclusions the findings cannot support.
Interpretation is the hardest part, and the model helps show why. A fresh tear may bleed and be swollen or bruised, but injuries of this tissue heal quickly and often leave no lasting sign, and many examinations after assault find no genital injury at all, so a normal examination does not rule out assault. Natural features — notches, clefts, or the bands and multiple openings of a cribriform hymen — can also be mistaken for injury, which is why comparison with an uninjured cribriform model is useful. It is used in forensic medicine and obstetrics and gynaecology teaching and in medico-legal training for police and the courts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cribriform hymen?
A normal variant in which the hymen has several small openings instead of one, giving a sieve-like appearance.
Does a normal examination rule out sexual assault?
No. Many survivors have no visible genital injury, and injuries that do occur often heal quickly without a trace.
What are the minimum order and dispatch time?
Ten units is the minimum, each sold individually and inspected visually; dispatch is usually within 7–10 working days, plus export transit.
Who manufactures the model?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of forensic, anatomy and biology teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and operating from Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab produces the model in its own works rather than reselling a trader's stock, so medical colleges, training institutes, dealers and importers buy from the manufacturer, and each unit is inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Austria in Western Europe, Vanuatu in Oceania, North Macedonia in Southern Europe, Paraguay in South America and Bhutan in South Asia.
