What Is the Culex Head Model Used For?
A mosquito’s head carries two large compound eyes, a pair of antennae, a pair of maxillary palps and the long proboscis — the piercing and sucking mouthparts that a female uses to take blood. The antennae are bushy in males and only sparsely haired in females. The palps are the classic identification key: in a female Culex they are much shorter than the proboscis, whereas in a female Anopheles they are about as long as it; males of both genera have long palps, club-tipped in Anopheles.
Culex mosquitoes bite mainly at night and breed in stagnant and polluted water such as drains. Culex quinquefasciatus spreads lymphatic filariasis caused by Wuchereria bancrofti, and other Culex species spread Japanese encephalitis. The model supports the insect-vector examples of class 11 biology, college entomology practicals and vector-control training.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I tell a Culex head from an Anopheles head?
Look at the palps of the female: short in Culex, about as long as the proboscis in Anopheles. JLab lists an Anopheles head model for direct comparison.
Does the model show a male or a female head?
The listing does not say. Ask JLab to confirm the sex shown, the size and the material when you request a quotation.
Who manufactures it?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of zoology and biology teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The Culex head model is produced in the company’s own works — not bought in from a trader — so schools, colleges, dealers and importers deal with the manufacturer directly, and every unit is inspected before it is packed. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Barbados in Central America and the Caribbean, Fiji in Oceania, Bhutan in South Asia, the UAE in the Middle East and Uzbekistan in Central Asia.
