What Is the Grey Hepatisation Model Used For?
Lobar pneumonia is an acute bacterial infection, classically caused by pneumococcus (Streptococcus pneumoniae), in which a large part of a lobe or the whole lobe fills with inflammatory exudate. Textbooks describe four classic stages: congestion, red hepatisation, grey hepatisation and resolution. By the grey stage the red cells in the air spaces have broken down while fibrin and neutrophils remain, so the lobe looks grey-brown, dry and firm — liver-like, which is where the word “hepatisation” comes from. Teachers use a model of this stage in pathology and respiratory-system lectures, and beside a normal lung model, to show what consolidation means. It is a teaching aid only and is not intended for diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which stage of lobar pneumonia does it represent?
The grey hepatisation stage, as its name states. The listing does not mention models of the other stages; ask JLab if you need a full series.
Can it be used to diagnose pneumonia?
No. It is a lecture and demonstration model, not a clinical or diagnostic device.
Who manufactures it?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) makes it at its works in Ambala, India, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of biology and medical-education teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers buy direct and every unit is visually inspected before it leaves. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Fiji in Oceania, the UK in Western Europe, Morocco in North Africa, the Dominican Republic in Central America and the Caribbean and Denmark in Northern Europe.
