What Is the T.B. with Lung Cavity Model Used For?
In a tuberculous lesion the centre dies and turns into soft, cheese-like (caseous) material. When this softens and drains into an airway it is coughed up, leaving an air-filled hole — a cavity — most often in the upper parts of the lung. The cavity wall holds very large numbers of bacteria, so a person with cavitary TB is highly infectious and usually has bacteria in the sputum. On a chest X-ray the cavity appears as a ring-shaped shadow. Possible complications include coughing up blood and, later, a fungus ball growing inside an old cavity.
With a full course of combined anti-TB drugs the infection is cured and cavities heal by scarring. Shown after the infiltration model, it completes the story of untreated lung TB in lectures on TB control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are lung cavities important in tuberculosis?
They contain huge numbers of TB bacteria, so patients with cavities spread the infection most easily, and the damage they leave behind can cause later complications.
How does it differ from the T.B. Infiltration in Lungs Model?
By name, the infiltration model shows inflamed lung tissue, and this one the later stage in which that tissue has broken down into a cavity.
Who manufactures it?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is how Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd trades: a laboratory equipment and teaching-model manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so medical and nursing colleges, dealers and importers buy from the manufacturer, and each unit is visually checked before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — Slovakia in Eastern Europe, Mauritius in East Africa, Iceland in Northern Europe, Uzbekistan in Central Asia and Brunei in Southeast Asia, for example.
