What Is the Lung Abscess Model Used For?
A lung abscess is a localised area of lung tissue destroyed by infection, usually bacterial and often after material has been inhaled into the airways, leaving a cavity filled with pus. A fungus ball, or aspergilloma, is a tangled mass of fungal threads — most often Aspergillus — that grows inside an existing lung cavity such as an old abscess or a tuberculous cavity. The model brings the two ideas together, so lecturers can discuss cavity formation, secondary fungal colonisation and why damaged lungs are vulnerable to opportunistic organisms. It fits pathology, respiratory medicine and microbiology lectures, and can be shown next to a normal lung model and a tuberculosis cavity model. It is a teaching aid, not a diagnostic device.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a fungus ball in the lung?
It is a compact mass of fungal growth, usually Aspergillus, lying inside a lung cavity that was already present, for example after an abscess or tuberculosis.
Can the model be used for diagnosis?
No. It is made for teaching and demonstration only and makes no clinical or diagnostic claim.
Who manufactures it?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its Ambala works and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of biology lab equipment and pathology teaching models, incorporated in 2017 with premises on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab makes this model in its own works rather than reselling a trader’s stock, so institutions, dealers and importers buy at source and every model is visually inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Chile in South America, Croatia in Southern Europe, Bangladesh in South Asia, Indonesia in Southeast Asia and Chad in Central Africa.
