Reading the Porosity Number
The grade number rises as the pores get smaller, so grade 0 is the most open disc here and grade 4 the tightest. Open grades give fast flow and catch only coarse material, while tight grades retain finer particles at the cost of a slower flow rate.
Sizing the Disc for Your Apparatus
Pick the diameter that matches the inside of the vessel, tube or column the disc will be sealed into, then pick the grade for the separation. Because each of the eight diameters is made in all five grades, the two choices can be made independently.
