How the B Size Is Read
The number after B is approximately the diameter, in millimetres, of the wide end of the taper. A cone and socket join only when they carry the same B number, so a B24 cone pairs with a B24 socket. Smaller B numbers are for narrow tubes and the larger ones for wide openings.
Handling Taper Joints
Keep the cone and socket surfaces clean, and apply a thin film of joint grease where the joint must not seize. Separate the halves with a gentle twist rather than a pull, as a joint left assembled for a long time can stick.
