How Leaching in a Bed Works
Solvent passing through the bed reaches each particle, dissolves the soluble component and carries it away as extract, so the solution grows stronger while the solid is gradually depleted. The rate depends on temperature, solvent flow and contact time. The nichrome heater, RTD PT-100 sensor and digital controller hold a chosen temperature, and the rotameter shows the solvent flow, so runs at different settings can be compared.
Bed Type or Packed Bed Type?
The Solid Liquid Extraction Packed Bed Type uses the same 30-litre solvent tank, glass column, heater, sensor and controller range. Choose it for counter-current studies: its solvent enters near the bottom of the column and flows upward through solid held on SS mesh, circulated by a magnetic polypropylene pump from a double-wall tank kept in a hot water bath. Choose the Bed Type when a compact, stand-alone unit is wanted, including for sample preparation work.
