Triode Valve Characteristics Apparatus with Stabilized Power Supply (code EL-COVT-1073) is a vacuum-tube trainer for plotting the V–I characteristics of a triode valve at various grid voltages. It uses an ECC82 valve, a stabilized DC regulated power supply (type TE-3) with a 0–300 V DC / 30 mA output, a 0–25 V output and 6.3 V AC / 1 A, and three round meters. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Valve Apparatus?
| Apparatus | Supplies (as listed) | Meters | Valve |
|---|---|---|---|
| This triode apparatus (EL-COVT-1073) | 0–300 V DC / 30 mA; 0–25 V; 6.3 V AC / 1 A | Three round meters | ECC82 |
| Diode Valve Characteristics Apparatus | 0–300 V DC / 30 mA; 6.3 V AC / 1 A | Two meters | Diode valve (type not listed) |
| Tetrode and Pentode Valve Characteristics Apparatus | 0–300 V / 50 mA; 25 V DC / 25 mA; 6.3 V AC / 1 A | Five round meters | 6SJ7 |
Pick the triode unit to teach grid control and the three valve constants. The diode unit covers thermionic conduction without a grid, and the tetrode and pentode unit adds screen-grid characteristics for multi-grid valves.
What Is the Triode Valve Apparatus Used For?
In a triode, a control grid between the cathode and the plate sets how many electrons reach the plate, so a small change in grid voltage changes the plate current far more than the same change in plate voltage would. Students hold the grid at a series of fixed voltages and vary the plate voltage to draw the plate (output) characteristics, then hold the plate voltage constant and vary the grid voltage to draw the mutual (transfer) characteristics. From these curves they work out the plate resistance, the transconductance and the amplification factor, and check that the amplification factor equals the product of the other two.
This is a core experiment in B.Sc. physics and electronics practicals and in engineering labs that still teach vacuum-tube fundamentals. The ECC82 is a twin-triode valve. Allow the heater a short warm-up, keep within the supply limits, and switch off before rewiring, as the plate supply reaches 300 V.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
- Spare ECC82 valves and connecting leads, if your lab wants them supplied with the order.
- Mains voltage at your lab and, for export, the destination and delivery terms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which valve is fitted?
An ECC82 twin-triode valve, as stated in the listing.
What power supply does it use?
A stabilized DC regulated supply, type TE-3, giving 0–300 V DC at 30 mA, a 0–25 V output and 6.3 V AC at 1 A. The listing writes the middle output as “0-25 VDA”, so confirm its type with JLab if it matters for your experiment sheet.
Which characteristics can students plot?
Plate characteristics at various grid voltages and, from the same readings, the transfer characteristics, giving the plate resistance, transconductance and amplification factor.
What should an export enquiry include?
Quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements, and any tender reference.
Who manufactures it?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — builds the apparatus at its Ambala works in Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of physics and electronics lab apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This triode apparatus is produced in JLab’s own works rather than bought in from a trader, so colleges, engineering institutes, dealers and importers buy direct from the maker; each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and spares and repeat orders come from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Afghanistan in South Asia, Finland in Northern Europe, Peru in South America, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean, and Mexico in North America. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
