What Is the Animal Kingdom Classification Chart Used For?

Classifying animals is one of the first big ideas in zoology. In the class 11 chapter on the animal kingdom, students sort animals by a short list of features: the level of body organisation, the type of symmetry, whether the body is built from two or three germ layers, whether there is a true body cavity (coelom), whether the body is segmented, and whether a notochord is present. Those features separate the non-chordate phyla, such as sponges, cnidarians like Hydra, flatworms, roundworms, annelids, arthropods, molluscs and echinoderms, from the chordates, and the vertebrates are then split into the familiar classes of fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

A classification chart on the wall lets the class keep the whole scheme in view while studying one group at a time, and it is a quick reference for revision and practical record work in a zoology lab. Hang it from its rollers near the specimen shelf or the board; the laminated face can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth. The listing does not describe the artwork in detail, so ask JLab for a larger image if you need to check the groups shown against your syllabus.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of charts — at least 10 units per order, each supplied as a single rolled chart.
  • Companion titles — the protozoa, Hydra, tapeworm, fish and frog charts listed below can be quoted together for a complete zoology wall set.
  • Language — English only as listed; check with JLab first if you need a bilingual chart.
  • Delivery — destination city and country, and for export orders the port and delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF).

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this chart help students learn?
It supports lessons on how animals are grouped into phyla and classes and which features decide each group. The artwork itself is not described in the listing; the product photograph shows the chart, and JLab can send a larger image on request.

What size is it and how is it finished?
It is 58 x 90 cm, about 22.8 x 35.4 inches, printed in full colour on art paper. Both sides are laminated with thick plastic film and plastic rollers are fitted for hanging.

On what basis are animals classified?
Mainly on body plan: level of organisation, symmetry, the number of germ layers, the type of body cavity, segmentation and the presence or absence of a notochord. Similar features place animals in the same phylum even when they look different from the outside.

Are protozoa part of the animal kingdom?
Older schemes treated protozoa as a phylum of animals, but the five-kingdom system taught in class 11 places these single-celled organisms in Kingdom Protista. Ask JLab for a larger image if you need to see which arrangement this chart follows.

What is the minimum order, and how soon is it dispatched?
Ten units is the minimum, sold as individual charts. Dispatch is usually within 7–10 working days after each chart has been inspected by eye, plus transit time for export shipments.

Who supplies the chart?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), based in Ambala, Haryana, India, supplies it and sends quotations directly.
