The Three Orifice Coefficients
Water leaving an orifice contracts to its narrowest section, the vena contracta, just beyond the opening. The coefficient of contraction Cc is the jet area there divided by the orifice area; the coefficient of velocity Cv is the actual jet velocity divided by the theoretical velocity √(2gH), where H is the head over the orifice; and the coefficient of discharge Cd is the actual discharge divided by a√(2gH), with a the orifice area. The three are linked by Cd = Cc × Cv, so finding any two gives the third.
Telling the Two Closed Circuit Models Apart
Both Closed Circuit Apparatus models share a name, a 0.5 HP single-phase pump set and a gun metal gate valve. The other unit calibrates venturi and orifice meters fitted in two G.I. pipelines, which is flow inside a pipe; this one deals with the jet that issues from an orifice.
