What Is the Clostridium Model Used For?
Clostridia live in soil and in the intestines of people and animals, and their spores survive heat, drying and many disinfectants. Most of their diseases are caused by toxins rather than by invasion. Clostridium tetani, whose round end spore gives a “drumstick” shape, enters through wounds and makes tetanospasmin, which blocks inhibitory nerve signals and causes the rigid spasms and lockjaw of tetanus. Clostridium botulinum makes botulinum toxin, which stops acetylcholine release and causes flaccid paralysis.
Clostridium perfringens causes gas gangrene in deep, dirty wounds, where its alpha toxin, a lecithinase, destroys muscle and gas forms in the tissue; some strains also cause food poisoning. Clostridioides difficile, formerly Clostridium difficile, causes diarrhoea and pseudomembranous colitis after antibiotics upset the normal gut flora. In the lab, clostridia are grown without oxygen, for example in Robertson’s cooked meat medium or an anaerobic jar.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the model cover?
The Clostridium species and a summary of their diseases, as its title says. The parts and labels are not listed, so ask JLab for a description and photo before ordering.
Why are clostridial diseases mostly caused by toxins?
Many species grow only where oxygen is scarce, such as dead tissue or sealed food, and the harm comes from the toxins they release, which can act far from where the bacteria grow — tetanus and botulinum toxins act on nerves, for example.
Who manufactures the Clostridium model?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) at its works in Ambala, Haryana.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of biology lab equipment and microbiology teaching aids in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. It makes this model at its own works instead of buying from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers order directly from the manufacturer. Its GSTIN is 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and its Legal Entity Identifier is 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Uruguay in South America, the USA in North America, Denmark in Northern Europe, Afghanistan in South Asia and Cameroon in Central Africa.
