Erythroblastosis Fetalis Model (code EL-BE-5189) is a teaching model of erythroblastosis fetalis, the haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn that can develop when an Rh-negative mother carries an Rh-positive baby. It supports biology, physiology, obstetrics, paediatrics and nursing lessons on blood groups and pregnancy. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Erythroblastosis Fetalis Model Used For?
When Rh-positive fetal red cells enter the blood of an Rh-negative mother, most often at delivery, she can become sensitised and make anti-Rh (anti-D) antibodies. In a later pregnancy with an Rh-positive fetus, these antibodies cross the placenta and destroy the baby’s red blood cells, causing anaemia and jaundice and, in severe cases, the generalised swelling called hydrops fetalis. The fetal marrow responds by releasing immature red cells, erythroblasts, into the blood — hence the name.
Rh incompatibility is part of class 11 biology (body fluids and circulation) and of physiology, obstetrics and nursing courses. The model gives teachers a visual reference while explaining how sensitisation in one pregnancy affects the next; it is a study aid, not for clinical use.

- Companion models — add the foetus or immunology models listed below to the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the first Rh-positive baby usually not affected?
Sensitisation usually happens at delivery, when fetal cells enter the mother’s circulation. Her antibodies form afterwards, so it is a later Rh-positive pregnancy that is at risk.
Can the condition be prevented?
In most cases, yes. Anti-D immunoglobulin given to Rh-negative mothers during pregnancy and after the birth of an Rh-positive baby stops them from becoming sensitised.
Does the listing give the model’s size and material?
No, so JLab confirms the size, material and mounting when it quotes.
OEM Manufacturer
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, manufactures laboratory equipment and biology and medical teaching models in India. It was incorporated in 2017 and works from Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is produced in JLab’s own works, not bought in from a trader, so nursing schools, medical colleges, dealers and importers deal directly with the maker, and each piece is inspected before it leaves. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region; examples include Fiji in Oceania, Eswatini in Southern Africa, Colombia in South America, Costa Rica in Central America and the Caribbean, and Afghanistan in South Asia. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
