What Is the Immunoglobulin Structure and Functions Model Used For?
Structure comes first. Each immunoglobulin is a Y-shaped glycoprotein built from two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains joined by disulphide bonds. The tips of the arms carry the variable regions that form the antigen-binding sites, while the constant regions, especially the stem (Fc region), decide which cells and proteins the antibody can engage; a flexible hinge lets the arms move. Teachers then compare the five classes: IgG, the most plentiful in blood and the only one that crosses the placenta; IgA, found in saliva, tears and breast milk including colostrum; IgM, a large pentamer and the first antibody made in a primary response; IgE, linked to allergy and defence against parasites; and IgD, which sits on the surface of naive B cells. Functions to cover include neutralising toxins and viruses, clumping microbes, marking them for phagocytes, activating complement and directing killer cells to infected targets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which immunoglobulin classes does the model explain?
The topic covers IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE and IgD; which of them the model shows, and how, is not listed, so ask JLab for a description with your quotation.
How is this different from the Antibodies Model and the Antibody Structure Model?
All three listings deal with antibodies, but none gives its parts, so the differences cannot be confirmed from the website. Ask JLab to compare them before ordering.
Who manufactures it?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (trading as JLab) at its Ambala works in Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of science teaching models and lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so institutions, dealers and importers order from the manufacturer and repeat orders return to it. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Costa Rica in Central America and the Caribbean, Senegal in West Africa, Malawi in East Africa, the Netherlands in Western Europe and DR Congo in Central Africa.
