Pairing a Socket with Its Cone
A socket only seals on a cone with the same B number: a B14 socket will not take a B19 cone. The B figure is close to the diameter in millimetres at the mouth of the socket, which helps when matching an unmarked cone.
Keeping the Joint Free
Grease only the upper part of the cone lightly before it goes into the socket, so that grease does not reach the contents. Store sockets and cones apart, or with a strip of paper between them, so that they do not seize.
