What Is the MOSFET Characteristics Apparatus Used For?
In a MOSFET the gate is separated from the channel by a thin insulating oxide layer, so the gate draws almost no current and the gate–source voltage alone sets how strongly the channel conducts. Its V–I (drain) characteristics — drain current against drain–source voltage at several gate voltages — show the ohmic region at low drain voltage and the saturation region where the current levels off, the behaviour that underlies MOSFET amplifiers and switches.
