What Is the FET Characteristics Apparatus Used For?
A field effect transistor is controlled by voltage rather than current: the gate–source voltage widens or narrows the conducting channel between drain and source. The static (drain) characteristic plots drain current against drain–source voltage for several gate voltages, showing the ohmic region and the flat saturation region beyond pinch-off; the transfer characteristic plots drain current against gate–source voltage at a fixed drain voltage. Together they give the device’s key figures for amplifier design.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of transistor is the BFW10?
It is an N-channel junction FET (JFET), a common choice for teaching labs.
What is the pinch-off voltage?
It is the gate–source voltage at which the channel closes and drain current falls almost to zero. On the drain characteristic, the related drain–source voltage marks where the current stops rising and levels off.
How is transconductance found from the curves?
From the slope of the transfer characteristic: the change in drain current divided by the change in gate–source voltage, with the drain–source voltage held constant.
How does it differ from the FET Characteristics Apparatus with three meters?
Both plot the static and transfer characteristics of the same FET type. This unit has variable 0–10 V and 0–20 V DC supplies; the other has 0–10 V DC/10 mA and 0–5 V DC supplies with three meters.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
Send the number of units, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling requirements, and the tender reference where relevant.
Who manufactures this apparatus?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of electronics and physics lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The FET apparatus is built at JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, which lets schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the maker and reorder from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Ecuador in South America, Egypt in North Africa, Uganda in East Africa, Mexico in North America and Qatar in the Middle East. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
