Product Code : EL-CC-2882
Jlab Export is a leading Sodium Chloride Crystal Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Sodium Chloride Crystal (code EL-CC-2882) is a 58 x 90 cm chemistry wall chart on the crystal of common salt — the rock-salt structure in which every sodium ion is surrounded by six chloride ions and every chloride ion by six sodium ions. It is printed in full colour on coated art paper, laminated on both sides, fitted with plastic rollers and in English only. JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, Ambala, India) supplies it to schools, colleges and dealers.

What Is the Sodium Chloride Crystal Chart Used For?

Sodium chloride is the standard example of an ionic solid. When sodium reacts with chlorine, each sodium atom gives up its outer electron to a chlorine atom, and the resulting sodium ions (Na+) and chloride ions (Cl−) are held together by electrostatic attraction. In the crystal the chloride ions form a face-centred cubic arrangement and the sodium ions occupy all of its octahedral voids, so each ion has six nearest neighbours of the opposite charge and the unit cell contains four of each ion. Potassium chloride and magnesium oxide crystallise in the same rock-salt structure, and the cubic shape of table-salt grains seen under a hand lens reflects it.

The structure explains the properties that students meet in class 10 work on ionic compounds and in class 11 chemical bonding: salt is hard but brittle, because sliding one layer of ions over another brings like charges together and the repulsion splits the crystal; it melts only at a high temperature; it does not conduct electricity as a solid but does when molten or dissolved, once the ions are free to move; and it dissolves in water as water molecules surround and separate the ions. The chart is a reference for these lessons and for college solid-state chemistry, and pairs well with a ball-and-stick model of the lattice. Its laminated surface can be written on and wiped clean. The listing does not itemise the diagrams printed on the chart, so ask for a preview image if you need to check them.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of charts — minimum order 10 units, each chart supplied on its own rollers.
  • Lattice models — the Crystal Models Set and the crystallographic model set both build a sodium chloride structure for students to handle.
  • Crystal-growing glassware — a crystallizing dish lets a class grow its own salt crystals by slow evaporation.
  • Shipping details — destination country, port or city and delivery terms for an export quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the subject of the Sodium Chloride Crystal chart?
The crystal structure of sodium chloride (common salt) and the ionic bonding behind it. The individual diagrams are not listed, so request a preview image if you need to see the exact panels.

What is the coordination number of sodium chloride?
Six for both ions. Each sodium ion sits at the centre of an octahedron of six chloride ions and each chloride ion is surrounded in the same way by six sodium ions, often written as six-to-six coordination.

How many ions are there in one unit cell of sodium chloride?
Four sodium ions and four chloride ions, which is four formula units of NaCl once the shares of ions on corners, edges and faces are added up.

Why is a salt crystal brittle?
Because of its alternating charges. A blow that pushes one layer of ions sideways brings sodium ions next to sodium ions and chloride ions next to chloride ions, and the repulsion splits the crystal along a flat face.

Why does salt conduct electricity only when molten or in solution?
In the solid the ions are locked in the lattice and cannot move. Melting the salt or dissolving it in water frees the ions, which then carry current.

What are the chart's size and finish?
58 x 90 cm (about 22.8 x 35.4 in), offset printed in full colour on 130 gsm coated art paper and laminated on both sides with 30 micron polyester; it weighs 228 g, hangs from plastic rollers and rolls to 58 x 4 x 2 cm.

What should I send for an export quotation?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.

Who supplies this chart?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) of Ambala, Haryana, India supplies it and quotes directly to schools, colleges and dealers.

Supplier

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana, which supplies science teaching aids and laboratory equipment to schools, colleges, dealers and importers. Chemistry wall charts such as this one are resold alongside the company’s own range of apparatus and models, which lets a chemistry department order charts, lattice models and glassware together; each chart is checked by eye before packing. JLab exports worldwide and can ship to buyers in every region, for example Turkmenistan in Central Asia, Moldova in Eastern Europe, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean, Namibia in Southern Africa and Canada in North America. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
