How Does It Compare with Other JLab AM Trainers?
| Model | Role | Range and supply | Other details |
|---|---|---|---|
| This trainer (EL-DSO-10340) | DSB/SSB AM receiver | 980 kHz to 2.060 MHz; +12 V regulated supply | Ganged-capacitor tuning with dial; switchable AGC; microphone, earphone and antenna supplied |
| DSB and SSB AM Receiver Trainer (980–1650 kHz) | DSB/SSB AM receiver | 980 kHz to 1650 kHz; ±12 V and +5 V regulated supplies | Loudspeaker with baffle in a separate box; experiments include image frequencies |
| DSB and SSB AM Transmitter Trainer | DSB/SSB AM transmitter | ±12 V and +5 V regulated supplies | Carrier generation, DSB/SSB generation and transmission, transmitter tuned circuits |
Choose this receiver when the course needs tuning up to 2.060 MHz; the other receiver trainer covers 980 to 1650 kHz. The transmitter trainer is a separate item that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
What Is the DSB SSB AM Receiver Trainer Used For?
In a superheterodyne receiver the RF amplifier and mixer, fed by the local oscillator, convert the tuned station to a fixed 455 kHz intermediate frequency, where two IF stages provide most of the gain and selectivity. A diode (envelope) detector recovers the audio from a full-carrier DSB signal, while an SSB signal has no carrier, so the product detector mixes it with the beat frequency oscillator to restore the audio. AGC lowers the gain on strong stations to keep the output steady. Students measure sensitivity (the weakest signal that gives a usable output), selectivity (how well neighbouring stations are rejected) and fidelity (how evenly audio frequencies are reproduced), and use the fault switches and test points to trace faults stage by stage in analog communication practicals.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is supplied with the receiver trainer?
A microphone and earphone, an antenna, a power cord, patch cords and an instruction manual.
Which detectors are fitted?
A diode detector for DSB and a product detector for SSB, with a beat frequency oscillator among the input circuits.
How does it differ from JLab’s DSB and SSB AM Receiver Trainer?
Both receive DSB and SSB AM with a 455 kHz IF and have 8 switched faults and 50 test points. That trainer covers 980 to 1650 kHz and has its loudspeaker in a separate box; this one tunes up to 2.060 MHz with a ganged-capacitor dial and runs from a +12 V regulated supply.
What mains supply does it need, and how big is it?
It runs on 220 V AC +10% at 50 Hz, measures 430 x 230 x 90 mm and weighs about 2.5 kg.
What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling needs, and the tender reference if one applies.
Who manufactures this AM receiver trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a communication and electronics trainer manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab makes this receiver trainer in its own works rather than reselling a trader’s unit, so colleges, polytechnics, dealers and importers buy from the source. The company is registered for GST under GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and its Legal Entity Identifier is 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Yemen in the Middle East, Iceland in Northern Europe, Armenia in Eastern Europe, Nepal in South Asia and Libya in North Africa. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
