What Is the Human Blood Chart Used For?

Blood is a fluid connective tissue: a straw-coloured plasma with the formed elements suspended in it. Plasma is mostly water carrying dissolved proteins — albumins, globulins and fibrinogen — together with nutrients, salts and wastes. Red blood cells (erythrocytes) are the most numerous; in humans they have no nucleus and are packed with haemoglobin, the iron-containing protein that carries oxygen. White blood cells (leucocytes) defend the body and are grouped into granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils) and agranulocytes (lymphocytes and monocytes), while platelets (thrombocytes) start the clotting that seals a damaged vessel.

The ABO blood groups depend on antigens on the red cell surface and antibodies in the plasma, and together with the Rh factor they decide which donor blood can safely be given — a class 11 topic that returns in class 12 genetics, where ABO is the textbook case of multiple alleles and codominance. Class 10 students meet blood as the body’s transport medium in the chapter on life processes. Put the chart up before students examine a stained blood smear under the microscope or run a simulated blood-typing activity; the laminated surface wipes clean. The listing does not describe the artwork, so ask JLab for a larger image to check what is shown.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units, supplied as individual charts.
  • Microscope work — human blood slides and the Blood Cell Model can be added so the chart, slide and model match.
  • Blood-typing practical — the simulated Blood Typing Kit uses artificial blood and sera, so no real blood is handled.
  • Delivery — your city and country, and for export the port and delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF).

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Human Blood Chart cover?
Human blood as a tissue and its components. The listing does not describe the individual panels; the product photograph shows the chart, and JLab can send a larger image before you order.

What are the size and finish?
58 x 90 cm (about 22.8 x 35.4 inches), full-colour print on art paper, thick plastic-film lamination on both sides and plastic rollers. The chart is in English only.

What are the main components of blood?
Plasma, the liquid part, and the formed elements: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Each has a separate job — transport, defence and clotting respectively, with plasma carrying dissolved substances.

Why are red blood cells red?
Because of haemoglobin, an iron-containing protein that binds oxygen in the lungs and releases it in the tissues.

How is a person’s ABO blood group decided?
By the antigens on the red cells: group A carries antigen A, group B antigen B, group AB both and group O neither. The plasma carries antibodies against the antigen that is absent.

Is a blood slide or model included?
No, this listing covers the chart only. The slides, Blood Cell Model and simulated typing kit linked below are separate items.

What is the minimum order and dispatch time?
The minimum is 10 units, sold individually. Dispatch usually takes 7–10 working days, with every chart checked by eye first; export orders add transit time.

Who supplies this chart?
