Iron Metabolism and Heme Synthesis Model

Product Code : EL-BE-6085
Jlab Export is a leading Iron Metabolism and Heme Synthesis Model Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Iron Metabolism and Heme Synthesis Model (code EL-BE-6085) is a biochemistry teaching model on two linked topics: how the body absorbs, transports, stores and recycles iron, and how cells build heme, the iron-containing group that lets haemoglobin carry oxygen. It is aimed at college biochemistry, physiology, nursing and medical teaching and at senior students going beyond the class 11 blood chapters. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Iron Metabolism and Heme Synthesis Model Used For?

Dietary iron is absorbed mainly in the duodenum, where ferric iron is reduced to the ferrous form and taken into the lining cells. Ferroportin exports it to the blood, where transferrin carries it, mostly to the bone marrow for new red cells; spare iron is stored as ferritin in the liver and in macrophages, which also recycle iron from worn-out red cells. The liver hormone hepcidin blocks ferroportin when stores are high. Because the body has no regulated way to excrete iron, control rests on absorption, and iron is lost mainly through shed cells and bleeding.

Heme synthesis starts in the mitochondria, where ALA synthase joins glycine and succinyl CoA to form aminolevulinic acid (ALA). In the cytoplasm ALA dehydratase joins ALA molecules into porphobilinogen, and further enzymes build the porphyrin ring, which returns to the mitochondria; ferrochelatase then inserts ferrous iron to give heme. The pathway explains porphyrias, lead poisoning (lead blocks ALA dehydratase and ferrochelatase) and the small, pale red cells of iron deficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which step controls the rate of heme synthesis?
The first one, catalysed by ALA synthase. Heme itself holds this enzyme back, so production follows demand.

What exactly does the model show?
The listing does not name its steps, labels, size or material. Ask JLab for a description and photograph with the quotation.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer in India of biochemistry and biology teaching models and laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab makes this model at its own works rather than buying it from traders, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers are supplied by the producer and can reorder from it directly. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Belize in Central America and the Caribbean, DR Congo in Central Africa, Burkina Faso in West Africa, Taiwan in East Asia and Peru in South America.
