Metacentric Height Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : EL-HLE-8976
Jlab Export is a leading Metacentric Height Apparatus Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Metacentric Height Apparatus (code EL-HLE-8976) is a floating-stability apparatus built around a hollow ship model of semi-circular section, which can be loaded as a cargo ship or as a warship. Extra weights in metric units tilt the model, and a fine angle-measuring arrangement reads the angle of heel, from which the metacentric height GM is found. This ship-model stability apparatus is built by JLab in Ambala, India.

Finding GM from the Heel
When a tilting weight w is moved a distance x across the floating model, the model heels to an angle θ at which the righting moment balances the heeling moment w x. The metacentric height is then GM = w x / (W tan θ), where W is the total weight afloat, including the tilting weights. Readings for several shifts to both sides give GM values to average, and the result can be compared with theory: GM = I/V − BG, with I the second moment of area of the waterplane, V the displaced volume and BG the height of G above the centre of buoyancy B.
Cargo Ship and Warship Loading
Loading the model in its cargo-ship and warship arrangements changes the height of its centre of gravity G. The metacentre M depends on the hull shape and draft, not on where the load sits, so a higher G at the same displacement leaves a smaller GM and the model rolls more readily; a GM at or below zero means it would not right itself. Comparing the two loadings shows how the placement of weight governs a ship’s stability.
Other Metacentric Height Apparatus
- Metacentric Height Apparatus — stainless steel pontoon, heel read by a pendulum on a graduated arc.
- Metacentric Height Apparatus — flat-bottomed semi-circular ship model in a windowed tank, with a heel pointer.
