What Is the Babcock and Wilcox Boiler Model Used For?
It is used in power plant and thermal engineering teaching to explain the water tube boiler, the type used where high pressures and large steam outputs are needed. In a water tube boiler the water is divided among many tubes exposed to the furnace gases, so it heats quickly and the thick shell of a large fire-tube boiler is not needed. The headers, tubes and superheater on the model give students a clear picture of how such a boiler is laid out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the water tubes inclined?
Water heated in the tubes, together with the steam bubbles it carries, rises along the slope towards the header and the shell, while cooler water flows down to replace it. The incline therefore sets up a natural circulation of water through the boiler.
What does the superheater do?
It heats the steam leaving the shell to a temperature above its boiling point at that pressure. Superheated steam carries more energy and does not condense as readily in pipes, engines or turbines.
What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements and any tender reference.

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an engineering demonstration model and laboratory equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab builds this model of a Babcock and Wilcox type boiler in its own works and supplies it straight to colleges, polytechnics, dealers and importers; it is not a product of the Babcock and Wilcox company. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Algeria in North Africa, Iceland in Northern Europe, Taiwan in East Asia, South Africa in Southern Africa and Jamaica in Central America and the Caribbean.
