How Does It Compare with Other JLab IC 555 Trainers?
| Trainer | Mode | Details given in its listing |
|---|---|---|
| This trainer (EL-SOM-1149) | Monostable | In-built power supply; set of patch cords; user’s manual |
| Astable Multivibrator using IC 555 | Astable (free-running) | 5 V DC regulated supply; IC 555, resistors and capacitors inside the cabinet with connections at sockets |
| Bistable Multivibrator using IC 555 | Bistable | 5 V DC regulated supply on sockets; two push-to-ON trigger switches, active low and active high |
| Monostable and Free Running Multivibrators using IC 555 | Monostable; free-running named in the title | 5 V DC regulated supply on sockets; printed circuit diagram; input for a small-duty-cycle square-wave trigger |
Choose this model when you want the monostable circuit with patch cords and a manual in one listing; add the astable and bistable trainers to cover all three 555 modes.
What Is the IC 555 Monostable Trainer Used For?
A monostable multivibrator has one stable state. In the 555 version the output rests low until the trigger input is pulled below one-third of the supply voltage; the output then goes high while the timing capacitor charges through the timing resistor, and when the capacitor reaches two-thirds of the supply the internal comparator ends the pulse and the capacitor is discharged. The pulse length is proportional to the product of R and C, so students change the components, watch the output pulse on an oscilloscope and compare its width with the calculated value. Typical applications include time delays, pulse stretching and switch debouncing — standard topics in B.Sc. electronics, diploma and ITI/TVET courses.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 trainers.
- Other 555 or transistor multivibrator trainers needed for the same practical.
- An oscilloscope, if it should be quoted with the trainers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What comes with the trainer?
The listing includes an in-built power supply, a set of patch cords and a user’s manual. An oscilloscope is not part of this listing and is ordered separately.
Which IC 555 applications does it cover?
The listing says “all applications using IC 555” without naming them, so ask JLab for the experiment list in the manual if your syllabus needs particular circuits.
How does it differ from the astable 555 trainer?
A monostable gives one pulse of set length for each trigger and then waits; an astable has no stable state and switches continuously, producing a square or rectangular wave.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of electronics trainers and science lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This 555 trainer is made at JLab’s own works rather than traded, so colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, and repeat orders, patch cords and spares are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Georgia in Eastern Europe, North Macedonia in Southern Europe, Brazil in South America, Canada in North America and Taiwan in East Asia. Tender details are on the lab tenders page.
