Product Code : EL-DSO-10325
Jlab Export is a leading Energy Band Gap Apparatus Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Energy Band Gap Apparatus (code EL-DSO-10325) is a bench apparatus for studying how the reverse saturation current of a reverse-biased PN junction diode changes with temperature, the measurement from which a semiconductor’s energy band gap is found. Its aluminium front panel carries the symbol diagram, with all important test points brought out. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Band Gap Apparatus?
| Model | Heating and temperature | Supply and meters |
|---|---|---|
| This apparatus (EL-DSO-10325) | Electric oven; mercury thermometer | Variable 0–20 V DC supply; moving coil voltmeter and microammeter |
| Energy Band Gap of PN Junction Diode | Oven with a temperature control system; thermometer | DC regulated supply; two round meters |
| Determination of Energy Band Gap in Semiconductor Diode | Electrically heated oven; thermometer | Regulated DC supply; digital microammeter |
All three find the band gap from the reverse saturation current of a heated diode; they differ in how the oven is controlled and how the current is read, as the table shows.
What Is the Energy Band Gap Apparatus Used For?
The energy band gap is the energy an electron needs to cross from the valence band to the conduction band. In a reverse-biased diode only a tiny saturation current of thermally generated carriers flows, and that current grows very rapidly as the junction warms, because more electrons gain enough energy to cross the gap, so measuring it over a range of temperatures reveals the size of the gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the diode reverse biased?
In reverse bias the current is carried only by minority carriers created by heat, so it depends strongly on temperature and on the band gap, and very little on the applied voltage once saturation is reached.
How is the band gap calculated from the readings?
The natural logarithm of the reverse saturation current is plotted against the reciprocal of the absolute temperature (in kelvin). The slope of the straight part of the graph is approximately the band gap divided by Boltzmann’s constant, so multiplying the slope by that constant gives the band gap.
Why does the ammeter read in microamps?
Reverse saturation currents are very small, so a microammeter is needed to read them with any resolution, especially at the lower oven temperatures.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
Send the number of units, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling requirements, and the tender reference if there is one.
Who manufactures this apparatus?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a physics and electronics lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The band gap apparatus is built in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order from the maker and can reorder from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Bangladesh in South Asia, South Korea in East Asia, Samoa in Oceania, Lesotho in Southern Africa and Belgium in Western Europe. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
