What Are Digital Panel Meters Used For?
A panel meter is mounted in a cut-out in the front of an instrument or control panel so that one voltage or current can be watched continuously. Physics and electrical engineering labs, ITI and polytechnic workshops build them into variable power supplies, experiment boards and test benches. Choosing the lowest range that still covers the highest reading you expect gives the finest resolution.
Connect a voltage meter across the circuit and a current meter in series with the load. For large DC currents, a meter on the 199.9 mV DC range can read the millivolt drop across an external shunt, which is proportional to the current through it.
