How Does It Compare with the JLab Transistor Characteristics Apparatus?
| Model | Configurations | Supplies | Meters | Transistors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| This board (EL-AET-1458) | Common emitter, common base and common collector | Two 0–10 V DC, 50 mA, continuously variable | Two 3½-digit DC voltmeters and two 3½-digit DC current meters | Silicon NPN and PNP; germanium NPN and PNP |
| Transistor Characteristics Apparatus | Common base and common emitter | 0–10 V DC (500 mA/50 mA) and 0–1 V DC, 30 mA, regulated | Four round meters | One PNP and one NPN |
Choose this board when all three configurations, including common collector, and both silicon and germanium transistors are on the syllabus, with the readings taken on digital meters. The Transistor Characteristics Apparatus covers common base and common emitter for one PNP and one NPN transistor with four round meters.
What Is the Transistor Training Board Used For?
The input characteristic of a transistor relates the input current to the input voltage at a fixed output voltage, and the output characteristic relates the output current to the output voltage at a fixed input current. Plotting both families in each configuration shows how the common emitter mode gives current and voltage gain, the common base mode has a very low input resistance, and the common collector mode works as a buffer with a high input resistance. From the curves students work out the current gain and the input and output resistances, and comparing silicon with germanium devices shows the germanium transistors switching on at a lower base–emitter voltage. These are core practicals in polytechnic, ITI, BSc electronics and engineering labs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the board have two variable supplies?
One biases the base–emitter junction and the other the collector–emitter junction. Holding one steady while stepping the other produces each curve of the input and output characteristic families.
Why are both silicon and germanium transistors on the board?
They let students compare the two semiconductor materials — germanium transistors conduct at a lower base–emitter voltage and show more leakage — and, with NPN and PNP types of each, see how the supply polarities reverse between the two transistor types.
What can be calculated from the characteristics?
The current gain in each configuration, the input resistance from the slope of the input characteristic and the output resistance from the slope of the output characteristic.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
The number of boards, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, and any packing, labelling or tender requirements.
Who manufactures the Training Board for Transistor?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of electronics trainers and laboratory instruments in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The board is built at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so colleges, institutes, dealers and importers deal with the manufacturer directly, every board is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are handled by the same works. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Guatemala in Central America and the Caribbean, Lesotho in Southern Africa, the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe, Angola in Central Africa and Turkmenistan in Central Asia. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
